Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.
Today’s topic is Most Recent Additions to my Bookshelf, but I didn’t buy or get a lot of books recently (I did get a couple of gift cards to the bookstore though!), so I’ll do the Most Recent Books I Borrowed from the Library instead. These are a mix of physical books, e-books, and audiobooks I currently have from the library. I have to say, I love my library and I love that we get such a wide catalog of books.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got many of the books they wanted!
Top Ten Most Recent Books I Borrowed from the Library
Top-Bottom, Left-Right:
- Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy – I actually think I played myself with borrowing both this one and the next one. They are both thick books and I didn’t know they’d be ready at the same time! It’s very likely that I’ll have to return one or the other unfinished and have to go back on the waitlist.
- War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy – See above!
- The Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner, Ph.D. – This has been on my TBR for a while. I don’t remember exactly, but I think it got on my radar because of a conversation I had with someone about how men are shamed for crying and women are shamed for showing anger. I could be remembering wrong, but I’m curious to read the book anyway.
- Lighter by Yung Pueblo – I flipped through a copy of Yung Pueblo’s newest book, The Way Forward, and loved the few pages I read, so I placed a hold on all his books from the library. This was just the one that became available first.
- Accountable by Dashka Slater – A fellow book blogger, Anne @ Head Full of Books, featured this book on her blog and I was intrigued!
- The Librarian Spy by Madeline Martin – I recently read Madeline Martin’s The Last Bookshop in London, and I loved it, so of course I have to read her other books too!
- Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson – This book has also been on my TBR for a while, but it took another fellow blogger recommending this book because we both loved Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half, to move it up my list.
- The Second Mrs. Astor by Shana Abe – I came across this book purely by accident while browsing my library’s audiobook catalog. It’s a historical fiction set on the Titanic, so of course I was interested!
- Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson – Another book I came across while browsing my library’s catalog. Books about books, I have to read it!
- The Forbidden City series by Melissa Addey – The edition I have from the library is a 4-in-1, and I found it browsing the physical shelves. I’ve always been fascinated by stories of Imperial China, so I’m very interested in reading this.
I am very much looking forward to these books! Have you read any of them? I’d love to hear your thoughts. What books are on your bookshelf?
I always think I’m going to read classic lit and don’t. Books like War & Peace kind of “scare” me as a reader just because they’re so long. 😉 I do spy a familiar to my shelf read in Melissa’s novel. Those do look like fun. Hope you enjoy all of these!
Honestly, War & Peace and Anna Karenina scare me too! They seem so daunting. But one of my favorite classic novels is The Count of Monte Cristo, and it’s one I’ve read over and over again because I love it so much, so I’m hoping to find more beloved classics!
I haven’t heard of any of these books.

You’ve got some great books on your list though!
Oh yes, it took me a year (literally!) to read War and Peace and another year to read Anna Karenina! Good luck!
A year each! Sounds like I might have to buy my own copies, I don’t think my library is gonna let me borrow them for so long!
I’ve heard great things about The Dance of Anger.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Good to know! I’m looking forward to reading it.
I’ve been thinking about reading The Librarian Spy myself.
I’m excited for it! I hope you enjoy it too!
I’ve had Furiously Happy on my TBR for way too long as well. My mood always deters me from picking it up even though I’ve heard great things about it. I hope you enjoy all the books you get to 🙂
Same! I’m a big mood reader and I end up reading a lot of fiction rather than nonfic, but I do enjoy nonfic when I get to them.
There are a few book related books in your list which is perfect for a library haul. 🙂
Yes! I can’t seem to resist books about books!
The Librarian Spy looks like a book I would enjoy! Happy Tuesday, Haze.
I hope you do enjoy it if you read it! Happy Tuesday, Jody!
wow, great list!
The Dance of Anger, Anna Karenina, and Furiously Happy – each has helped me through some part of life.
Wow, that’s high endorsement! I’ll have to get on them really soon.
The only one here I’ve read was Furiously Happy, it was fairly interesting. Good luck reading Anna Karenina and War & Peace, those are some chunky books.
Gosh, I’m starting to feel really intimidated by Anna Karenina and War and Peace! I’ll tackle the shorter books first, I think!
Ooooh I love a good library haul!! I like the look of The Second Mrs. Astor.
My TTT 🙂
Me too! I’m excited to read it!
Furiously Happy is one of my all-time favorites because I could relate to it way too much. I hope you enjoy all these!
More high praise for Furiously Happy! I’m really looking forward to it!
War and Peace is an experience. I suspect I will be rereading it in a decade or so. And Jenny Lawson is so laugh-until-you-cry funny 😀 Enjoy!
(My TTT is here.)
I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed both these books! I’m excited for them too!
I loved Furiously Happy so much! I felt like Jenny Lawson got me, lol. I hope you enjoy reading it as well as all the others!
So many people praising Furiously Happy! I’m really anticipating reading it! Thank you!
It’s such a blessing to have a great, well-stocked library nearby, isn’t it? I’m fortunate to have access to both a large city library system as well as a county one. Between the two, I can usually find whatever I’m looking for. It’s lovely. I hope you enjoy all these!
Happy TTT!

It is so wonderful to have a great library! I’m from Malaysia and we don’t have good libraries there, and books are so expensive, so when we moved to Canada, I was thrilled and so grateful for the library here!
I love the library spin! My recent addition from the library was Technically Yours by Deise Williams.
Ooh, that sounds like a fun book! I hope you enjoy it!
This is such a great list, Haze! I’ve got Anna Karenina and War and Peace on my TBR, but I think it would be pretty challenging reading them both in a short period of time since they’re both so long. The Forbidden City sounds amazing – I find stories of Imperial China fascinating too! I hope you enjoy all of these, and love that you also support your local library!
Yes! I read Imperial Woman by Pearl S. Buck when I was young and I fell in love with it. The ending went on a bit too long, but I loved it and read it several times over. I hope The Forbidden City will be just as good!
I too liked Madeleine Martin’s London Bookshop book so have now added The Librarian Spy to my TBR on GR.
Perfect! That makes me so happy. I hope you love it!
Nice list! I’ve heard really good things about Furiously Happy😁
Yes, I’m excited to read it!
Ooh nice! These are all new to me ones. I hope you enjoy them all once you get to read them!
Thanks for visiting my TTT!
I’m sure I will! Thanks!
I haven’t read any of these but it looks like you have a good mix to choose from! I’ll have to look up Yung Pueblo.
Oh, I hope you like him too!
Great way to tweak the topic! I haven’t read these, but I did enjoy some of Shane Abé’s fantasy romances a while back so I hope you enjoy her historical fantasy! I might have to look and see if my library has that book, too.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)! (here’s my post)
I haven’t checked out Shana Abe’s other books. I love fantasy romance too, so I’ll have to check those out. Thanks!
