Sunday Post | An Ice-Skating Christmas Day

Posted December 30, 2023 by Haze in Sunday Post, Weekly Book Memes / 24 Comments

Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.

An Ice-Skating Christmas Day

The week started out wonderful with Christmas Day and a small ice-skating gathering in the morning. We made some new friends and had a lot of fun even though it was outdoors and really cold! We didn’t do much the rest of the day but we did have some really yummy leftovers.

I’m also happy because I did quite well this last week with finishing and reviewing three books. And I got out of my comfort zone and signed up for three more reading challenges for 2024!! That means that I’m currently signed up for nine reading challenges in 2024. NINE!

To be fair, Finishing the Series and Series Enders are complementary, and the Library Love and Audiobook challenges would have a lot of overlap since I get all my audiobooks from the library! Also, the Classics challenge is technically a five-year challenge, so if I don’t do well in 2024, I can catch up in the next years!

I really hope I don’t regret this! Have you signed up for any reading challenges? How many reading challenges are the sweet spot for you?

I also managed to get A Christmas Carol finished! Holy description, Dickens has got a way with words! I’m familiar with his works in pop culture and adaptations, but I haven’t actually finished any of his books. This is my first, and will definitely not be the last.

Last Week on The Blog

This Week

I will probably be writing the review for A Christmas Carol this week, but also, it’s the first week of 2024 and I can finally get started on all the books that fit the challenges I signed up for!

  • Holly by Stephen King – for the Finishing the Series and Series Enders challenges
  • Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson – for the Nonfiction challenge
  • The Librarian Spy by Madeline Martin – for the Bookish Books challenge
  • Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson – for the Bookish Books challenge

These are books already on my digital bookshelf, and will count for the Library Love and Audiobook challenges too! I don’t know if I can finish them all this week, but they’re the first ones on my list.

I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!

  1. Sounds like you had a fun Christmas day with the ice skating even tough it was really cold. There are so many fun challenges to join, I am joining the audiobook challenge as well next year :). I signed up for 2 challenged next year, the audiobook one and COYER, which focuses on reading free or cheap ebooks and audiobooks. Coyer is always a great way to keep me on track with reading review copies. Nice timing that you read A Christmas Carol around Christmas. I hope you have a great week!

    • Thank you! I’ve been wondering what COYER was. I’ve seen it while browsing reading challenges but wasn’t sure. I hope you have a great week too, and a wonderful new year!

  2. Ice skating on Christmas Day sounds lovely!

You’re definitely participating in more challenges than I think I could handle… I feel like I start with enthusiasm and quickly get overwhelmed, so I’ve kept it very low-key in recent years. Good luck with yours! It’s a good idea to make sure they’re complementary to each other.

    My weekly roundup!

    • Yeah, this is my first year blogging again, so I’m pretty sure I got caught up in the excitement and might have signed up for too many challenges, but I’m hopeful, especially since they are complementary. This time next year, I’ll either be patting myself on the back or telling myself never again! Lol!

    • I think we need a little more practice on the ice before I feel comfortable! Lol! Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful new year too!

  3. Sounds like a great list! I am not signing up for any reading challenges (except Goodreads), because I have overdone it the past few years. I want less pressure this year. All three of those sound awesome and I am sure you will have fun with them. Happy New Year!

    • Thank you! I had zero pressure this year, so maybe that’s why I’m going overboard for 2024. I need to learn to moderate myself! Lol! Happy New Year!

  4. I’m going to sign up for COYER. I am not good at being consistent. I start challenges with much enthusiasm and then by May, I”ll start falling off. I hope the challenges are lots of fun for you!

  5. I always want to do these outdoorsy, wintery things, like ice skating, but the only pants I own are jeans so I wouldn’t know what to wear that would keep my legs from freezing. I never have that problem with my upper body, just my frozen legs. LOL

    Happy New Year!

    • I have the same problem! I don’t know how to dress for winter and have mostly been staying at home hiding from the cold the last few winters. This is the first winter I’ve gone out and done things!

  6. Your Christmas sounds like it was so much fun! I have only been ice skating once and that was many years ago. Good luck with your reading challenges! I did quite a few this past year. It’s always so much fun. I think I am going to step back from them this year though. It’s hard though with so many tempting challenges out there! I am glad you enjoyed A Christmas Carol. It’s probably my favorite of his (not that I’ve read much of his work yet). I listened to Furiously Happy this past year and enjoyed it. I hope you will too! I hope you have a Happy New Year and a wonderful week!

    • I know what you mean. I tried very hard to resist the challenges, but they were just calling to me! I love that A Christmas Carol is your favorite. It’s my first Dickens book and I intend to read many more, hopefully some of them this year! Thank you! Have a wonderful new year!
