Monthly Wrap-Up | September 2025

Posted September 30, 2025 by Haze in Monthly Wrap Up / 10 Comments

Welcome to the Monthly Wrap Up hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction to share our monthly wrap-up posts that summarizes our month in books, our favorite books of the month, what we did on our blogs, and anything noteworthy we want to share.

September 2025 Wrap Up

This was a busy month for me and I didn’t read a lot of variety, but I did spend time on trying to finish a couple of series, which is good in and of itself, but they’re not completely done yet!

My September 2025 TBR Intentions

My September TBR intentions has been woefully neglected this month. I’ll be migrating them forward into October and hope I have better luck getting to them!

  1. Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  2. Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  3. Dragons of Summer Flame by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  4. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
  5. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
  6. The Devils by Joe Abercrombie
  7. A Sorceress Comes To Call by T. Kingfisher
  8. Falling by T.J. Newman
  9. S. by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst

Books Read in September 2025

  1. Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  2. Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  3. Taste by Stanley Tucci
  4. What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami
  5. Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
  6. Carl’s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman
  7. The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman
  8. The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman

Notable Books This Month

Obviously, the Dungeon Crawler Carl series has very much taken over my brain at the moment! I am loving all of them so far, and I’m almost done with Book 5. I have about 4 hours left of it as of this writing. I mean to continue with the rest of the books and finish the series in October, but I think I’ll have to take a break and read some other books first because of library due dates and reading deadlines.

However, I must say that I loved all the books I read this month!

The Dragonlance series were amazing also! I didn’t finish it because I realized there was a book in between Dragons of Spring Dawning and Dragons of Summer Flame, and I have not acquired that book yet. I also loved Stanley Tucci’s Taste, because I love him in general and I love how he talks about food and how food has shaped some of the relationships in his life.

Most notably, I was very surprised by how much I loved What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. I have never read his books, and I didn’t realize who the author was when I picked up this book, but I am very inspired by this book and I’m very curious to read his other books.

October 2025 TBR Intentions

I want to read the rest of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and hopefully finish some of the books I meant to read last month.

  1. The Butcher’s Masquerade by Matt Dinniman
  2. The Eye of the Bedlam Bride by Matt Dinniman
  3. This Inevitable Ruin by Matt Dinniman
  4. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
  5. A Sorceress Comes To Call by T. Kingfisher
  6. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
  7. The Devils by Joe Abercrombie
  8. Falling by T.J. Newman

How was your month in September? What were your most memorable bookish moments? I hope you have a wonderful October with lots of great books!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books Beginning with F

Posted September 29, 2025 by Haze in Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Book Memes / 43 Comments

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.

Today’s topic is Book Covers that Give off Fall Vibes

Normally I’d have no problems looking for books with fall vibes, but I’ve recently participated in a couple of reading challenges where there were a few prompts for books with fall vibes, and I just feel like doing something a little different today. Besides, my alphabetical TTT series has been a little slow, so I might as well add to it!

Top Ten Books Beginning with F

  1. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury – One of those classics I can’t believe I haven’t read yet.
  2. Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley – I keep going back and forth with this one; I wasn’t interested in it, but I keep seeing and hearing about it and I’m curious!
  3. Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson – This book calls to the part of me that’s broken but still has a wicked sense of humor. I should probably read it soon and get a little carthasis out of it.
  4. Falling by T.J. Newman – This one sounds thrilling and I’ve been excited to read it for a while.
  5. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North – Time travel scifi, right up my alley, it has been on my TBR since it came out 10 years ago and I’m annoyed with myself that I haven’t read it yet!
  6. Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith – I’ve loved many of the author’s books, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy this one too!
  7. Funny Farm by Laurie Zaleski – I love animals and at one point I wanted to be a vet, but now that I have pets and understand the responsibility of taking care of them, I don’t think I’ll want more than a few at a time. I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading about someone else doing it though!
  8. Firestarter by Stephen King – Is it even a Haze TTT if there’s no Stephen King book on the list?!
  9. Fayne by Ann-Marie MacDonald – My library was featuring this book quite aggressively and it worked! I’m interested! It’s more than 700 pages though, so I’m waiting for the right time to pick it up.
  10. Foxfire, Wolfskin by Sharon Blackie – Mythology, folklore, and fairy tales about women from across Europe. I want it, I need it. I want more!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Would you read any of these books?

Sunday Post | 28 September 2025

Posted September 27, 2025 by Haze in Sunday Post, Weekly Book Memes / 22 Comments

Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings. I am also linking up with Deb @ Readerbuzz for The Sunday Salon.

The Universe Works in Mysterious Ways

It was another challenging week for me but overall I think it was good in many ways. One of the things I was most stoked about was that I got Brené Brown’s new book, Strong Ground, the day it released!

I am a huge fan of her works but I didn’t even know she had a book coming out and only found out about it the night before as I was going to bed. The next day, I was looking into where I could get the book and how much it cost, and apparently it was selling for $31.50 (plus tax) at a bookstore near me. And guess what? I just happened to have a giftcard for that bookstore that I had been holding on to for about two years (because I hardly buy physical books anymore) and it had exactly $31.50 left on it!!

It was just so serendipitous and I was like, the Universe wants me to have this book!

And then later the same day, I found out that there was a 2-for-1 sale on Audible, and one of the books on the sale was Book 5 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series! I had just finished Book 4 and was going to get Book 5 anyway, and now I get another free book out of it – Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, which has been on my TBR for a long time!

This hardly ever happens to me, and then twice in one day! Perhaps the Universe was making up for the other challenging things that happened last week (that we won’t talk about right now), but hey, I’ll take it! I’ll always be grateful for the good things, no matter how small, and I try to focus on the positive when I can.

Speaking of positive, good things; thank you so much to all of you who took the time to listen to our music that I shared here last week! We’ve gotten some great feedback and we’re really excited to get better and share more music with you!

I’ve added the widget to the sidebar for easy access and visibility, because of course, I’m never gonna shut up about it now. 😂 But truly, I’m just happy to be able to share something I love with you.

The Books

Books I read last week:

  1. The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman – There were a couple of reveals in this book that shook me, and that ending, omg! These books just keep getting better and better. I was going to stop at this book and take a break from the series because I had other book obligations, but I couldn’t stop after that ending, so I just kept reading!

Books I’m reading:

  1. The Butcher’s Masquerade by Matt Dinniman – Currently 4 hours into a 23-hour book. We haven’t gotten into the juicy stuff yet, but there’s been some funny and heartwarming scenes already.
  2. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman – I’m 4.5 hours into this 14-hour book. It’s my in-person bookclub’s botm and we were supposed to meet today (Saturday), but many of us couldn’t make it last minute so we’ve postponed the discussion to next week, which gives me more time to finish!

Last Week on The Blog

Just the TTT. I’ve only been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, so the only book reviews I need to write are all Dungeon Crawler Carl books! I haven’t decided if I’ll write them all after I finish all the existing books, or if I should get started on each one soon!

This Week

Library due dates! I need to finish A Sorceress Comes to Call this week if I don’t want to go back on the queue and wait until it’s my turn again! But also, to be honest, I feel like I don’t have the bandwidth for focusing on new storylines at the moment, and being on a DCC binge helps because I’m already familiar with the world.

How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books on My Fall 2025 TBR

Posted September 22, 2025 by Haze in Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Book Memes / 22 Comments

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.

Today’s topic is Books on My Fall 2025 to-Read List

Most of these books were already included in my September intended TBR but I haven’t gotten to them and we have just about a week left in the month. Hopefully, I’ll get to them some time this fall! I also realize that I have three Stephen King titles on this list, but to be fair, they are all actual buddy reads that I signed up for that have fall deadlines, plus I realized I need to amp up my Stephen King reading if I want to finish my Stephen King Constant Reader Challenge in a timely manner!

Top Ten Books on My Fall 2025 TBR

  1. The Wedding People by Alison Espach – I have heard interesting things about this book. It seems like a light-hearted book but apparently there are some heavy themes, but it looks like there are generally great reviews for it.
  2. The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston – I have read another book by the author, and I really like the sound of the plot for this book.
  3. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman – It’s the BOTM for my in-person bookclub this month, meeting this weekend! I really hope I can finish it by then!
  4. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab – I have enjoyed several of the author’s books, but I like some more than others. I hope this is one of the good ones!
  5. The Devils by Joe Abercrombie – I really enjoyed The First Law Trilogy and I’d already read the first few chapters of this one and found it really intriguing too! It’s a thicker book but hopefully I can dive in soon.
  6. A Sorceress Comes To Call by T. Kingfisher – I initially started this book a few days ago but realized that I had more time on it (library deadline) than I had on Between Two Fires, so I’m putting it down and reading the other one first!
  7. Falling by T.J. Newman – The plot sounds fascinating when I heard it and I’m excited to get to it soon!
  8. Duma Key by Stephen King – I have read this before and remember loving it, but I don’t remember a single thing about it. It’s a buddy read so I decided to reread it with everyone else for the discussion.
  9. Christine by Stephen King – Another buddy read! I recently watched the movie but haven’t yet read the book. My husband has watched many of King’s film adaptations and is a fan of his works, but the only King book he has read that I have not is this one! I have to remedy that (on both sides)!
  10. The Running Man by Stephen King – And yet another buddy read; my online bookclub has a lot of serious Stephen King fans!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Would you read any of these books?

Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.

Our Music is Out!

Last week my husband and I finally released some original music that we’d been working on for ages and ages and ages!! It’s our first collaboration album under the band name SpaceBlaze; we released three songs on Monday but there are more coming soon, so please take a listen and if you like it, please bookmark and come back for the rest!

I have been so excited to share this for such a long time but there have been so many unexpected delays and setbacks because we’re doing everything on our own; from conception to creation, to recording, post-production, and publishing. We had no idea what we were doing!! But we made it, finally!

It’s not perfect, obviously, but I hope you’ll enjoy the effort and I appreciate any feedback!

We’re also on other music platforms, so if Spotify doesn’t work for you, feel free to listen on whichever ones you use. My husband has also released some instrumental covers under the name GuitarLone, if you’re interested in checking that out!

In other news, I had my first exam on Wednesday and got my results back already! The bad news is that I made some silly mistakes, the good news is that I got an A anyway! Yayy! And the next exam is in two weeks… yay…😅

I’m still struggling a little with time management and I’m falling behind on almost everything but I’m feeling just a tiny bit better about it this week because the instructors have graciously extended the due dates for a couple of assignments that were originally due this weekend.

I need to chill and remind myself that as long as I pass the courses, I’m happy! I don’t need to have perfect grades! I don’t need to have a clean house! I can wear my dirty clothes several times before they start smelling! I’m sure the people covering their noses when I get close were just having allergies! I can make my husband cook every day for the foreseeable future, or just eat bread and cereal! For every meal! Sounds like a plan.

The Books

Books I read last week:

  1. Carl’s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman – The second book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. More fun, more hijinks. I already love Carl and Donut, but I also love that we are seeing more of other characters. I’m not sure I can say much without giving away spoilers, but I have to say that I can’t imagine a more adorable pet for Donut than Mongo!
  2. The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman – This one was a lot more emotional for me than the first two. Yes, the books are fun and hilarious, but the things that happen in the book are also kind of f’d up and traumatizing, and I think it’s good that they take it seriously and remind us of that occasionally. I love how we are seeing the characters grow and develop more depth.

Books I’m reading:

  1. The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman – Just started at Ch 2. I can’t seem to stop reading about Carl and Donut!
  2. A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher – I love Kingfisher and I really want to read this book but I’m on a roll with DCC, and the only reason I also started this book is because it’s a borrowed library book and there’s a deadline, and I want to make sure I finish it before I have to return it!

Last Week on The Blog

Just the Top Ten Tuesday for the week.

This Week

At this point, I’m not sure if I’ll get to any of my intended TBR for the month since I have been very engrossed in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and absolutely loving them! I would love to finish the whole series back-to-back, but I do want to finish A Sorceress Comes to Call before I have to return it, and I also have an in-person bookclub happening the coming weekend and I need to read the BOTM!

How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!

Top Ten Tuesday | Books Beginning with E

Posted September 15, 2025 by Haze in Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Book Memes / 17 Comments

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.

Today’s topic is Literary/Bookish Candles I’d Make

I used to love scented candles and aromatherapy, but since having cats and learning that some aromatherapy oils can be dangerous to them, I haven’t had any in the home for a while now. So I’m going with Books Beginning with E. These are all books I haven’t read but want to. Some hopefully sooner rather than later.

Top Ten Books Beginning with E

  1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman – I actually got a couple of chapters in a few years ago but for some reason never finished it. I hear so much praise about it that I feel like I should try again though.
  2. Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green – This one intrigues me specifically because of Nicky @ The Bibliophibian who has featured and talked about this book a lot! If you search for the book on their blog, you’ll find quite a few entries with very interesting writeups.
  3. Emma by Jane Austen – I’ve only read two books by Austen but I keep meaning to read more. There are other Austen books I’m more interested in reading first, but this one starts with E.
  4. Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn – I love the idea of this book but haven’t read it yet. It seems like a quick and easy read so I don’t know why I haven’t gotten to it. Maybe I’ve been taking it a little bit for granted.
  5. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty – I had no intention of ever reading this book initially, but a couple of my bookclub friends were discussing it so animatedly that it’s gotten me really curious. I still can’t say for sure that I will read it, but I am curious!
  6. Educated by Tara Westover – This has been on my TBR forever and it has gotten so much praise that I know I have to read it.
  7. The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee – I’m a cancer survivor, but to be honest, I still don’t know very much about cancer at all. This sounds very interesting to me and I guess it’s never too late to educate myself.
  8. Everything’s Eventual by Stephen King – I mean, if a Stephen King book fits in a TTT, you know I’m gonna add it there. I haven’t read so many of his books yet, but I’m looking forward to them all!
  9. Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton – I’m doing the Classics Club challenge, and the one thing I love about this book is that it’s only 99 pages!
  10. Eve by Cat Bohannon – A nonfiction book about the female body and its evolution? Sign me up! It’s seriously ridiculous how little we know about the female body. It’s seriously ridiculous how little I, as a woman, know about my own body! I don’t know if this book will answer all the questions, but I’m pretty sure I will learn some new things!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Would you read any of these books?

Sunday Post | 14 September 2025

Posted September 13, 2025 by Haze in Sunday Post, Weekly Book Memes / 10 Comments

Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.

All’s Well That Ends Well

I was hoping the second week of school would be easier but the Universe had other plans for me. This time again, it wasn’t school kicking my butt although I have to admit I’m finding myself using parts of my brain I haven’t accessed in years and that’s a challenge in itself.

Nope, what happened was we had a plumbing issue on Monday, and we were lucky enough that we got the plumber to come on Tuesday, but those couple of days weren’t fun, let me tell you. And then on Thursday, we woke up to one of our cats, Pepper, limping, and after having Loki just passing a few months ago, I was perhaps a tad paranoid and worried about something bad happening to Pepper as well. I was anxiously monitoring and babying her the whole day. Fortunately, she seemed a lot better the next morning and is pretty much back to normal now. (I’m still babying her a little bit though.)

So yeah, it was an emotionally difficult and anxiety-ridden week for me. I didn’t get much sleep, which made it difficult for me to concentrate in class as well. I was so glad for the weekend! Everything is looking up this weekend!

Please let the coming week be as easy breezy as can be! I should mention I have my first exam this week, but the sentiment stands! Please let this week be so easy breezy that I’ll ease and breeze through the exam too!

The Books

Books I read last week:

  1. Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman – It was so much more intense than I remembered! To be fair, it’s been maybe 30 years since I last read it, but I still love it! I was initially going to read the Dragons of Summer Flame after this one but just found out that there’s another book that I don’t have in between these two, so I’m putting the series on hold.
  2. Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman – I read this last year and loved it, but haven’t finished the series, so I reread to refresh my memory and I intend to finish the series this time!

Books I’m reading:

  1. Carl’s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman – I also read this last year and stopped halfway through book 3. Rereading it for a refresher and finishing the rest of the books. I’m on Ch 7 now!
  2. The Devils by Joe Abercrombie – I’m only on the third chapter, which is only 3% in, but it’s already really interesting and the characters are really standing out.

Last Week on The Blog

I missed out on Top Ten Tuesday last week, but I got a couple of reviews done!

This Week

I have temporarily given up on S. by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst. I don’t have the mental power for an intellectual book like that right now. The Dungeon Crawler Carl series weren’t really in my plans this month, but I just needed something fun and it fits the bill!

How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!

Book Review | Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

Posted September 9, 2025 by Haze in Book Reviews / 0 Comments

Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

Will truth and virtue triumph over the deadly darkness of an all-consuming evil?

The war against the dragon minions of Queen Takhisis rages on. Armed with the mysterious, magical Dragon Orbs and the shining, silver Dragonlance, the Companions of the Lance lead their people in a desperate final battle. Knight and barbarian, warrior and mage, dwarf and kender—no one has reckoned how high the price of defeat, or even victory, might be.

But now, in the dawn of a new day, the dark secrets that have long shadowed the hearts of the Companions come to light. If they are to truly defeat the five-headed dragon goddess, they must find a way to overcome their own personal conflicts and doubts. From betrayal and treachery to fragility and weakness, the greatest battle now lies within each of them.

Finally armed with dragonlances, a group of heroes, composed of a knight, barbarian, dwarf, and half-elf, faces a deadly showdown with the evil dragons and Takhisis, the Queen of Darkness.

For the Reading Challenge(s):
2025 52 Book Club Reading Challenge (Prompt #6: Genre One: Set in Spring)

The Reason

Rereading one of my favorite fantasy series.

The Quotes

“The darkness might conquer, but it could never extinguish hope. And though one candle, or many, might flicker and die, new candles would be lit from the old. Thus hope’s flame always burns, lighting the darkness until the coming of day.”

“Theros Ironfeld said once that—in all the years he had lived—he had never seen anything done out of love come to evil.”

“Flint snorted. The kender was beginning to make sence, a fact that caused the dwarf to shake his head and wonder if maybe he shouldn’t lie down somewhere out in the sun.”

The Narrator(s)

Paul Boehmer. Still perfect!

My Thoughts

This is the third book in the Dragonlance Chronicles and there are more books in the series but they happen after the events in the first three books, so this book is effectively the conclusion of the story that started in the first book. The thing that surprised me most with the series is how things get progressively darker and more serious with each book. In the first book, it felt like this would be a low-stakes, feel-good type of story, but by the third book I had lost all hope in everyone and everything. This series is actually a reread but the last time I read it was decades ago and I do not remember it being so bleak, I had such good memories of it that I probably blocked out the trauma.

There are so many things I want to say about the story and characters but I would need to go into detail and they would need to be spoilered. I may write a password-protected post with all the spoilers for these books if I can find time to do them before I forget the details! I still love it this time around though, it made me feel so many emotions, including disbelief, but oh, what a journey!

My Rating

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars.

Book Review | What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami

Posted September 9, 2025 by Haze in Book Reviews / 0 Comments

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami

In 1982, having sold his jazz bar to devote himself to writing, Murakami began running to keep fit. A year later, he’d completed a solo course from Athens to Marathon, and now, after dozens of such races, not to mention triathlons and a dozen critically acclaimed books, he reflects upon the influence the sport has had on his life and—even more important—on his writing.

Equal parts training log, travelogue, and reminiscence, this revealing memoir covers his four-month preparation for the 2005 New York City Marathon and takes us to places ranging from Tokyo’s Jingu Gaien gardens, where he once shared the course with an Olympian, to the Charles River in Boston among young women who outpace him. Through this marvelous lens of sport emerges a panorama of memories and insights: the eureka moment when he decided to become a writer, his greatest triumphs and disappointments, his passion for vintage LPs, and the experience, after fifty, of seeing his race times improve and then fall back.

By turns funny and sobering, playful and philosophical, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is rich and revelatory, both for fans of this masterful yet guardedly private writer and for the exploding population of athletes who find similar satisfaction in running.

For the Reading Challenge(s):
N/A

The Reason

I’m trying to motivate myself with running, and this book turned up while I was browsing. I didn’t realize who the author was until later.

The Quotes

“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Say you’re running and you think, ‘Man, this hurts, I can’t take it anymore. The ‘hurt’ part is an unavoidable reality, but whether or not you can stand anymore is up to the runner himself.”

“I’m the kind of person who likes to be by himself. To put a finer point on it, I’m the type of person who doesn’t find it painful to be alone. I find spending an hour or two every day running alone, not speaking to anyone, as well as four or five hours alone at my desk, to be neither difficult nor boring. I’ve had this tendency ever since I was young, when, given a choice, I much preferred reading books on my own or concentrating on listening to music over being with someone else. I could always think of things to do by myself.”

“It doesn’t matter how old I get, but as long as I continue to live I’ll always discover something new about myself.”

“Sometimes taking time is actually a shortcut.”

The Narrator(s)

Ray Porter. He’s one of my personal GOATs!

My Thoughts

I have never read a single book Haruki Murakami has written although I’ve been curious because of how often people talk about his books. I picked up this book not because of the author, but because of the title – I am a new runner, not a very good one, but very interested in getting better at it. I was surprised when I realized who the author was, and even more surprised when I started reading and finding out how passionate he was about running.

It’s interesting to find out so much about an author whose works I had never read through a memoir about his passion for running and writing. It was interesting to find out that he basically became a writer by just one day deciding to write a novel and then promptly forgetting about it after he was finished. I love the way he talks about why he runs, how he trains, his determination and drive to get better and compete with himself. It is very inspiring for me as an aspiring runner, but also quite scary because I think I would severely injure myself if I went to the lengths he did.

Some of his values and beliefs with the way he lives his life resonates strongly for me, and others seem a little questionable, but either way, reading this book makes me want to reexamine my own values and beliefs about how I live my life, and how I want to move forward with my own running. I highly recommend this book for anyone who runs or who’s thinking about taking up running.

My Rating

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars.

Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.

The First Week of School

I was quite overwhelmed this first week of school! It wasn’t so much the courses, but all the setups and signups and logins, and apps and softwares I had to install for the courses. It’s been such a long while since I went to college as a young adult and now everything has been digitized! I don’t necessarily have a problem with technology, and in fact, I like having the courses available online, but I don’t like having so many different apps for so many different things!

Maybe this is karma; I used to complain about my parents being technology dinosaurs when I was a teenager and this is the Universe’s way of paying me back! 😂

It was a really busy week nevertheless, and I wasn’t able to read as much as I wanted but I did manage a couple of books! Plus I caught up on a few reviews! Hopefully, things will settle down once I get all the setups done, but I know I also have a lot of study and assignments and exams ahead of me. Is it too soon to start complaining? 😅

The Books

Books I read last week:

  1. Dragons of Winter Night by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman – The second book in the Dragonlance Chronicles series. Things escalated a lot faster than I expected but I am still very invested in the story and the characters. The ending was crazy but I started the next book already because I needed to find out what happens next!
  2. Taste by Stanley Tucci – I loved listening to Tucci talk about his relationship with the people in his life through the lens of food and the meals he has with them. He’s such a personable character and I love his work in the acting world as well.
  3. What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami – I picked up this book because of the subject matter and not the author. I’ve never read a single book by Murakami before this one, but I’m very impressed and inspired by his dedication to everything he does in life, including his running, and it has made me curious and wanting to read his books.

Books I’m reading:

  1. Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman – Just recently started so there’s not much to say yet. I just really want all my favorite characters to be okay!

Last Week on The Blog

Catching up on my reviews again!

This Week

If I can, I’ll get the rest of the Dragonlance Chronicles finished this week. It’s been so many years, I just want to feel that resolution to the story. But I do have a couple of other series in the Dragonlance universe to read after this, though I will try to finish other series I’ve started before starting a new one!

How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!
