Top Ten Tuesday | Books on my Wish List

Posted December 18, 2023 by Haze in Top Ten Tuesday, Weekly Book Memes / 36 Comments

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.

Today’s topic is Bookish Wishes.

I used to have a small library of books I collected over many years, but I moved across the world and had to let many of them go. I don’t have a lot of space for physical books now (but I do have a Kobo!), so I usually only buy the ones I love and know I’ll read over and over again, or new books only if I already love the author, or if they are useful as reference books. Otherwise, I try to stick to e-books and library books. Sometimes, however, I do like to buy multiple copies of my favorite books because I wear them out and need new ones. Does anyone else do that?

You can find my Amazon Wish List here.

Top Ten Books on my Wish List

Top-Bottom, Left-Right:

  1. The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo – I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s set in Malaysia and it’s about a young woman who is being forced to marry a dead man’s ghost, per outdated Chinese customs. It’s a story I love that has stayed with me for a while. I’ve also bought her other book, The Night Tiger, but I prefer this one. She’s got another book coming out next year, The Fox Wife, and I can’t wait!
  2. Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher – T. Kingfisher is one of my favorite authors and I’ve loved all her books that I’ve read, so I’m slowly collecting them. Nettle and Bone is my favorite so far, but they are all so good.
  3. The New Annotated Frankenstein by Mary Shelley – I’m very much coveting all the annotated classics, but I’m only listing one and I chose Frankenstein because it’s one of my favorite stories of all time.
  4. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery – This is one of my favorite childhood books, and I used to have the full set but I left them behind. It’s not a priority because I’ve already read them, it’s just a collection I want to have, and that would be handy to have whenever I feel nostalgic.
  5. The Glass Chateau by Stephen P. Kiernan – I’ve read all his books except this one, and I loved all of them. I’m slowly collecting them because they’re just so beautiful and profound. The author has such a way with storytelling. I always feel like I’ve been transported into a magical world.
  6. XX by Rian Hughes – I haven’t read this one so I don’t know if I’ll like it, but it’s a book that’s better experienced on a physical copy because of the way it’s designed. The author is a graphic designer. I’ve read and love The House of Leaves which is similar in terms of type designs being a part of the story, and I ended up buying a physical copy of that book too after finishing the library copy, because it was so good.
  7. The Field Guide to Witches – I came across this book while browsing at the library and I loved that it was basically an encyclopedia of the different kinds of witches in myth and folklore.
  8. Mosaic Crochet by Alexis Sixel – I’m not the best crocheter, but her patterns are so beautiful and I’d love to try my hand at mosaic crochet one day.
  9. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir – I loved this book. Loved it. And I definitely need my own physical copy, but also, I really need my library to get the audiobook. For some reason, the audiobook isn’t available, but people say it’s so good, and I need it.
  10. Light Bringer by Pierce Brown – I love the series and I’ve already got the first five books, so this is the next on my list.

Have you read any of these books? Do you think you’d like them? Do you have a specific collection of books you’re acquiring?

  1. I grew up watching the 80s adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, but I don’t know that I’ve ever read the books. I should though since the story is so good. Hope these make it onto your bookshelf. 🙂

    • Yes, the books are totally worth reading. To be fair, the 80s adaptation does a great job of staying true to the books, and Megan Follows *is* Anne, but the books are great too!

    • I really must get my hands on an audiobook copy!

PS. I’m sorry I couldn’t comment on your blog because you don’t have Name/URL enabled. I hope you get the books you want for Christmas, and I wanted to comment on your Music Monday post too. I never played Professor Layton but the music sounds really good!

    • Yes, it’s great because my library has such a great selection of books, and if they don’t, it’s so much easier and space-saving to acquire an ebook than a physical one.

  2. I’m only familiar with a couple of these books. That crochet book looks interesting, I’m not the best at crochet but would love to start making more things and improving my skills. I’ll have to pick up that book. I hope you enjoy these books when you get to them.

    • I feel the same way! I enjoy crocheting and have been doing it a while, but I can’t freehand, and I always make so many mistakes and have to frog all the time. It’s still such a nice feeling when you finish a piece though!

    • Oh I’m so happy to hear you’ve read The Ghost Bride. It’s one of the books I always try to recommend because it’s so representative of my culture!

  3. I LOVED Anne of Green Gables and still have my set…and I keep thinking I should reread them…but I am not a big rereader, so I haven’t. The Mosaic Crochet sounds amazing. I hope Santa grants your wishes. Merry Christmas!

    • I used to reread a lot more when I lived in Malaysia because we don’t have good libraries there and I had limited books, but now I have access to so many books from so many different sources, so there are always new books I want to read. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too!

    • I love to crochet too! I love that it’s such a compatible activity to do while listening to audiobooks. I can do two things I love at once! Maybe we’ll both try mosaic crochet for the first time next year!

  4. So many great ones! I only discovered Anne of Green Gables as an adult, but I loved the books so much! I’d love to own my own pretty copies some day. I’d really like to read this Stephen Kiernan book too — I’ve read two of his earlier books, and thought they were excellent. I hope you get some of your wishlist books!

    • Oh, I’m so happy to hear you’ve read Stephen Kiernan! His books are so haunting, like they never leave you. They live rent free in my head and heart!

    • Anne of Green Gables is such a comfort read, and always worth re-reading! I’m so happy you liked Project Hail Mary, it’s such a delight to read!

  5. This is a fantastic list! The Ghost Bride sounds fantastic – I enjoyed The Night Tiger and didn’t realize Choo had another book out already. Nettle & Bone was outstanding, and I have a copy of Light Bringer, but am bemoaning the fact that I haven’t gotten the time to read it yet 😩 I hope you get all the books on your wishlist and enjoy all of them!

    • The Ghost Bride was her first book and The Night Tiger came later! Next year, she releases The Fox Wife and I’m so excited! I hope you get a chance to read Light Bringer soon.

  6. Annotated classics are so cool to have to flip through! I totally understand wanting to own certain books even if you already read them. I hope you get a chance to acquire some of these and have enough space to own the books you want! 🙂
