Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl that features a different bookish topic every week.
Today’s topic is Books On My Winter 2023-2024 To-Read List. I don’t typically read a lot of Christmas-themed or winter-themed books on purpose. If they happen to be set in winter or at Christmas, that’s fine and I enjoy them, but I don’t seek them out, so my winter TBR are just regular books I want to read. I do love watching a lot of cheesy Christmas-themed movies during the season though!
Below are the books I hope to read this winter. Many are library books that I’m on the waitlist for, and I’m estimating that they’ll be getting to me this winter, so fingers crossed!
Top Ten Books on my Winter 2023-2024 To-Read List
Top-Bottom, Left-Right:
- The Switch by Beth O’Leary – I read and loved a couple of her other books but I haven’t gotten around to this one yet.
- Holly by Stephen King – I really enjoyed the Mr. Mercedes series where we first got to know Holly, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of her here.
- Light Bringer by Pierce Brown – I am stuck in limbo waiting for this one to get to me because it’s Book 6 in the Red Rising series, and I was in pain seeing my beloved characters suffer in Book 5. I need to know what happens next!
- Slewfoot by Brom – I don’t actually know what this is about. I just heard a lot of good things about the book and author. I did just recently read a different book by this same author and didn’t like it, so I’m tempering my expectations.
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett – It’s the title that got me for this one. I would’ve read it even if it was an actual nonfic encyclopedia. In fact, I’d probably want to read it more if it was a real encyclopedia of faeries!
- Watership Down by Richard Adams – This has been on my TBR for ages and ages. It’s one of those books you take for granted because it’s a classic and you know it will always be relevant so you can read it any time.
- A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid – Not sure if I should be embarrassed to admit that Bookstagram is responsible for this one.
- The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson – Also this one. What can I say? I’m weak and easily influenced!
- Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross – I actually have a different book by this author on my TBR, A River Enchanted, but yes, Bookstagram is making me want to read this first. We have already established I’m weak.
- The Glass Chateau by Stephen P. Kiernan – This is one of my favorite authors and I’ve read everything he’s written so far, except this one which is his latest. His books are beautiful and profound and beautiful and lyrical, and did I say beautiful? I cannot recommend him enough.
I am very much looking forward to these books! Have you read any of them? I’d love to hear your thoughts. What books are you excited for this winter?
I’ve been eyeing Beth’s novels for a while now. They look really fun, and the synopsis’ intrigue me. Definitely an author I’m curious to read. 🙂 Hope you enjoy all of your TBR hopefuls.
Thank you! I’ve read several of Beth O’Leary’s books and enjoyed them all. A friend told me she liked The Switch most out of the ones she’d read, so I’m really looking forward to this one. I hope you enjoy her too if you read her!
We have a couple of the same ones! I also have Divine Rivals and A Study in Drowning. They’re perfect for winter!

I see that! I loved your list and added so many to my TBR!
Emily Wylde is charming, I have the second book on my winter TBR! And I loved A Study in Drowning. I hope you enjoy all your books.
Thank you! I’m excited about the Emily Wilde book and A Study in Drowning. Good to know you liked them!
The Switch is a book I want to try as well. I hope you love all of these.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy The Switch too if you read it!
Bookstagram caught my eyes with A Study in Drowning and Divine Rivals too.
I hope they’re as good as Bookstagram says!
Watership Down! I had that book on my TBR for an embarrassingly long time (like 20 years) and finally got to it this year. It was great. I hope you enjoy all these books.
I’m glad I’m in good company. I had Watership Down on my TBR for many years too! Good to hear you liked it.
Yeah, the waitlist from the library changes everything, LOL! You never know when your stuff is going to come in. Mine always seems to come in at once, then I don’t have time to read it all. I hope you enjoy these when you do get a chance to read them.
My library gives an estimated timeline based on how many people are waiting per book copy so I’m quite sure they’ll come in the next couple of months, but you’re right, I can’t be sure that they won’t all come at once. Fingers crossed they come nice and staggered! Lol!
The Switch is a fun read! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Good to hear, I hope so too! Thank you!
The Emily Wilde book is one of my favorites from this year. I’m actually about to start my ARC of the sequel, and I’m really excited. I hope you enjoy all of these!
I’m so glad you liked the Emily Wilde book, and I’m excited for you for the sequel! Thanks and I hope you enjoy your books as well!
The Switch is really good. My favourite Beth O’Leary is probably still The Flat Share but The No Show is a close second.
I loved both The Flat Share and The No Show in first and second places respectively too! Yay!
Stephen King is always a good choice! I haven’t read Mr. Mercedes yet but now that I know they’re connected, I’ll have to pick it up. Happy reading!
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday
I love SK because he’s so consistent and you gotta admire that. I also feel like his recent books are only getting better, though of course I haven’t read every one of his books. There are just so many!
I need to re-read Fairytale because I had to give it back to the library. But yes, he’s only getting better!
Oh, I loved Fairytale! It’s like, maybe my top three? of SK’s books! It’s hard to choose, but it’s definitely up there!
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Fairies is definitely an eye catching title! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
It is! I cannot resist fairy tales!
I recently read King’s Holly – LOVED IT!
Great list
Good to know! I’m excited for it.
Nice list. You never know with the library waitlist. Books are ready when least expect it.
That has happened to me several times, but I’m hoping this time they will come nicely staggered. I mean, ’tis the season for Christmas miracles, right? LOL!
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries is on my TBR list, too, though probably for spring. It caught my attention for the same reason it caught yours and I too would read it even it was an encylopedia of faeries. That would actually be a fun read. I’m currently reading a poetry book all about fairies. 🙂
Yes, I saw your list! I loved it and I was drawn to the fairy book too!
It’s been an age since I read WATERSHIP DOWN so I barely remember what it’s about (except for the rabbits). I should really re-read it one of these days. I hope you enjoy it and all these others!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Thank you! I hear references to Watership Down on pop culture, but I don’t know anything about it except for the rabbits too. I’m looking forward to reading it!
This is a great list! I haven’t read any of them yet, but Emily Wilde and A Study in Drowning are both on my TBR.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)! Here’s my post this week.
Thank you! I’m excited for them both, I hope you enjoy them when you read them too!
I added A Study in Drowning to my TBR recently too! It looks really fascinating. Hope you enjoy all these!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it too!
I love Emily Wilde so I hope you enjoy that one, too! I also have Divine Rivals on my TBR to read, but I was waiting for the sequels release before reading.
Good luck with your list! I hope you enjoy these 🙂
Thank you! I’m really looking forward to Emily Wilde!
[…] feeling pretty happy because I’m doing well with actually reading the books I listed on my Winter TBR a few weeks ago. Let’s hope I keep it […]
