I decided to feature some of my favorite authors for romance for this week’s topic. These are authors with more than a few books I’ve read and loved, and who I’m still interested in reading. I love some more than others, and they all have different writing styles, but I get a lot of joy out of reading them! Do you have any go-to romance authors? Please share your recommendations, I’m always looking for more!
Ten Of My Go-To Romance Authors
Taylor Jenkins Reid – She doesn’t write the typical Happy Ever After romances, but her books do often revolve around BIG LOVE and always give me a ton of feels. Her stories live rent free in my heart!
Mhairi McFarlane – Also not your typical romance writer, but her books are so valuable to me and give so much insight into the topic of love and human nature.
Beth O’Leary – I loved some of her books more than others, but even the not-so-good ones are good for light entertainment and for that reason I continue to read them.
Jennifer E. Smith – She writes young adult romance, but I started reading them years ago so her books are kind of “grandfathered” into my reading lists whenever I need a nostalgic pick-me-up.
Ashley Poston – She’s a new favorite! I’ve read two books and loved them, and I’ve already borrowed more from the library! I especially love the magical realism element to her stories, and the vibes!
Emily Henry – I also love some of her books more than others, but all of them always feel like safe go-tos for comfort reads, and so I keep going back to them.
Kasie West – Another author “grandfathered” in from my younger days. I still love her books and I think they’re relevant and lovely regardless of audience age.
Katherine Center – She might be one of the most consistently good romance writers with consistently good stories. Her books have such a wonderful balance of light-heartedness and profundity that I think is not appreciated nearly enough.
Christina Lauren – Their books are delightful snacks for me. They don’t keep me full for long, but sometimes all you want is a snack to satisfy a craving, and their books fill that role for me.
Tessa Dare – I love historical romance but haven’t read many recently because I don’t like some of the outdated ideas that come with them. I get it, it’s true to the time, but still. Tessa Dare manages to write wonderful historical romance that feature feminist ideas and I love them!

My Thoughts
Finley may be a high-school student, but her feelings and issues are so relatable, and I was feeling them all with her. I was incensed with Jensen, bittersweet about her grandmother, grateful for her amazing friendships, excited about her podcast, determined with her training, and fluttery about her closeness with Theo. It was such a journey going through all of it with her, and I especially loved her grandmother’s stories.
I loved Kasie West and she was an automatic read for me at one point, but it’s been a while since I read her books and I thought it might be because I aged out of her target audience. And I have, sort of. I’m no longer a teen or young adult, but I have realized that good books transcends age, era, and any kind of demographic people box them into, and so I’m just reading whatever I want and loving the good books.
Also, I believe stories are important for the purpose of allowing us to see from other people’s points of view and learning empathy. I never want to forget what it was like to be a young adult or dismiss a young person’s feelings about what’s important to them. I think this story is a great reminder of that because of the parallels of Finley’s story along with her grandmother’s. I loved it!

I was in the mood to binge-read some romance after finishing The Seven Year Slip by the same author.

My Thoughts
It’s so funny because I read this book immediately after The Seven Year Slip, and one of the things I was thinking about while reading The Seven Year Slip was how it had such ethereal vibes and reminded me of the movie, Just Like Heaven, which stars Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo (yes, I know it’s based on a book too!), and now reading this book reminds me even more of that movie!
I loved this story between Florence Day and Benji Andor; their chemistry, their banter… I’m a conversation kind of girl, I fall in love through conversations, and I fell in love with them! A lot of Florence’s story was bittersweet, but also quite relatable, and I think that’s what makes these stories great. Just a touch of the extraordinary in otherwise ordinary people’s lives. I’ve read Ashley Poston’s books before but these two book have made me sit up and pay attention and I think I am now a wholely devoted fan. I need more!

My Thoughts
I have heard so much praise for this book and had this book on my TBR for so long, but for some reason, never got around to reading it because I was so mired in buddy reads and deadlines. I finally started and got hooked immediately, and basically finished reading it in a single day because I just couldn’t put it down!
I love the idea the moment I heard it but I was worried about the execution because seven years is a long time and I hoped we wouldn’t get a whole middle part of the story where nothing was happening but ah, I of little faith was wrong and I apologize. The pacing of the story, the execution of it, the timing of it (hah, see what I did there!) was absolutely perfect. The chemistry between the two MCs, Clementine and Iwan, was *chef’s kiss* (hah, see what I did there again!). The backstories, the connection with their friends, all of it made the characters feel so real. I just absolutely loved this book!

Kristin Atherton. I really like her narration! Her male voices were a little funny, but not funny enough to be an issue. It was quite a pleasure.
My Thoughts
I loved this book and it reminds me why I love McFarlane’s works so much! Her books are always thoughtful, sensitive to real life issues, and yet still feeds the romantic need in my soul. I love the chemistry between Bel and Connor, and I love how their relationship builds as we move forward in the story and they continue working together. I also love the premise of the story itself; the undercover story that they work on together, the other issues that they face individually and as a team, their personal backstories, and their professional lives at stake. McFarlane’s books always hit, and I am very strongly tempted to binge read and reread all of McFarlane’s books right now.

Helen Laser. She’s really good! Her narration reminds me a little of Julia Whelan’s narration and I’m a huge fan.
My Thoughts
I’m not sure what I was expecting with this book; I initially thought perhaps something along the vibes of Fredrik Backman’s books, something depressing turned heartwarming, and it was a little like that but also more complicated and a lot less clear-cut. There was a lot of tension throughout the book, and I love how the author juggled that along with telling the story. I loved the characters, the fact that there is more to each of them than initial impressions. They make mistakes, do stupid things, behave badly, want things they shouldn’t, but they can still be good people who mean well.
I also love how chance encounters can change your life and how random people can turn into important relationships. I met a random woman once when I was a young teenage girl, who gave me some life advice that I’ve remembered and tried to stick to ever since. I don’t even know her name and wouldn’t recognize her if I saw her again but I’ve never forgotten her and what she said to me. I love that Lila changed Phoebe’s life without even meaning to, and for purely selfish reasons. You just never know the impact you have on someone.

My Thoughts
I’ve been missing light-hearted romance stories and liked the sound of this one. Two strangers traveling together in a somewhat forced proximity, and learning about each other and themselves in the process of their journey. It’s cute and a little cheesy, but it was sweet and feel-good, and I needed to feel good. I loved the two MCs and the way they interacted with each other. I loved how unique Hugo’s situation was, and how he struggled to find his place as an individual. I loved Mae’s passion for telling stories and eventually finding her own. It got really emotional near the end and I’m not ashamed to say I sobbed like a baby. I’ve read a couple of books previously by this author and enjoyed them, and I think I’ll be reading more.

My Thoughts
I picked up this book because I had been reading a lot of horror and hard-hitting books lately and I needed a nice, light-hearted romance. There were a lot of cliches, tropes, and hijinks, but all in good fun and mostly delivered well. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two MCs, and I love the relationships they have with the other supporting characters as well. I think the family aspect of the book is one of my favorite things about it, though I normally don’t like family being too involved in personal stuff. It feels like there was a nice balance between nosiness and respect for privacy with the relationships here. There was some graphic sex on the page which I wasn’t expecting but I thought was done pretty tastefully, considering. It was a really quick read and I enjoyed it very much!

And she’s catching a certain vibe from the grumpy coffee shop owner whenever he slips her a free slice of banana bread along with her coffee order.
As Nick takes her on a ghost tour, sharing town gossip that tourists don’t get to hear, and they spend nights side-by-side looking into the former owners of her haunted cottage, their connection solidifies into something very real and enticing. But Cassie’s worried she’s in too deep with this whole (haunted) home ownership thing… and Nick’s afraid to get too close in case Cassie gets scared away for good.

Jeannie Sheneman. Wonderful narration, I was fully immersed.
My Thoughts
It was so much fun! I finished it within 24 hours because it was just so easy to read and I couldn’t put it down. The romance itself is sweet, maybe a little cheesy, but honestly, the ghost story was so good! Most of the time when I read romances with side ghost stories, I don’t expect a good story because I see it only as a plot point, but in this case, I got really invested in the ghost story.
I love that it’s also a found family story, and finding a place of belonging among people who care about you and accept you for you. It scratches a lot of itches for me, and I love it more than I expected I would. It makes me so happy to see that there’s going to be another book in the series featuring a secondary character in this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on that when it comes out!

My Thoughts
This was so perfectly charming and fun to read! I love Katie and Hutch’s chemistry, and I love the story and how their relationship unfolded. Katie was adorable and awkward and so relatable. I couldn’t help but love her. Hutch was portrayed as the strong, silent type, but he’s just as awkward and I love it! It was such fun reading this, I even learned some things about helicopters and how rescues work.
I also love that there was a found family element to the story with Rue and her friends. Katie was being cared for and I love that for her. I didn’t like Cole so much, I thought he was wildly unprofessional and what he did was basically workplace sexual harrassment. It might not have been so bad if they were friends, but as he was Katie’s superior at work, I really didn’t like that part of the story.
The main part of the story was sweet though, and I love the dog. He was the funniest wingman! This was such a fun and enjoyable read, and just what I needed.
