Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.
Kitchen Not So Confidential
There’s been a lot of cooking this past week. There’s no special occasion or anything, I just felt like it and had the time, and maybe I’m also enjoying the cleaner kitchen and want to take advantage of that.
I made Butter Prawns, some random soups with everything thrown in, Braised Pork Belly with hard boiled eggs, napa cabbage stir fry, and other stuff I didn’t take pictures of. I’ve been eating well but I’m not sure if I can keep this up! I should probably try to get better at taking food pictures if I do!
I’ve finished watching 911: Lone Star and I was going to start watching the original 911, but a couple of other shows caught my eye so I’ll probably alternate when I have time. I started watching Renegade Nell on my own and I’m quite enjoying it even though I’m still not sure what the end game is and why Nell is special. My husband and I are watching Fallout together. Neither of us play the game but that’s not going to stop us enjoying the show. We’re only on the third episode at the moment. I’m really loving Lucy’s character. Not too sure about Maximus.
The weather has also been pretty nice and we took some walks around the neighborhood. That made me very happy and I hope the weather keeps getting better and we get to take more walks. It’s supposed to snow again later this week but I won’t mind it too much as long as I get to walk outside a little more.
All the happy things:
- All the food!
- The walks and the warmer weather!
- I bought a couple of organizers to organize my sticker collection and I love them!
- I bought a few skeins of yarn I’m excited to use, soon!
- Had a nice chat with a friend who made me feel encouraged about things I’ve been wanting to do
- Got started on organizing my closet
The Books
Books I read last week:
- Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett – I’m so happy I finally finished this book! I’ve been anticipating it so much. I think I like the characters we meet in the first book more than the ones here, but I like them too, and I’m glad we were able to see more of Poe. I’m looking forward to the next book too!
- Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree – Another one I’ve been anticipating. I loved the first book, and I love this one too! I love that it’s so much more about bookshops and books. And I love Viv as ever. She’s someone I’d love to be friends with, and I love how her character is written so well that you just feel drawn to her the same way the people in the book are drawn to her.
Books I’m (still) reading:
- The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas – I meant to finish the rest of this book but was distracted by another audiobook. Plus the next check-in is still some weeks away so I’ve got time!
- Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent – I’m 65% in and enjoying it very much! I promise I’ll get back to The Count of Monte Cristo after I finish this!
Last Week on The Blog
- Book Review | The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
- Top Ten Tuesday | Books with Cats in the Title
- Book Review | Funny Feelings by Tarah Dewitt
- Book Review | Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
- Time Travel Thursday | April 11 | How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell
This Week
I’ll finish up my audiobooks of Daughter of No Worlds and The Count of Monte Cristo, and I’m starting a buddy read for The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden this week. If I can make it, I’d like to get started on The Kite Runner for my in-person book club before the week is out.
I’m also hoping to get caught up on my book reviews and update my books read on Goodreads and The Storygraph.
How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!
Bookshops & Bonedust was SO great, and Viv is a great character. LOVE the food photos. Have a great week!
I love Viv! Hope you have a great week too!
I’ll second your comments about Bookshops & Bonedust, which I also loved. Daughter of No Worlds has caught my attention – I do love that cover. I am looking forward to getting more done in the kitchen as I continue to get better.
That is an attention-getting cover, that’s for sure! I hope you enjoy it if you read it!
I love seeing your cooking! Way to go on the cleaning. I’m trying to get better at cleaning up some messes myself. It’s easy to put stuff in a pile to deal with later and then just leave it in the pile.
Thanks! Yes! But the mess is so hard to deal with later 😭
Fun cooking photos! Enjoy the lovely weather and happy reading!
Thank you! Happy reading to you too!
Fun cooking you made me hungry. I read a couple of books this week. We started installing some new flooring in our house and are waiting for a revamp on our front yard to start.
Good luck on the home improvement! That sounds exciting!
I hope you are enjoying The Count of Monte Cristo! I would love to read this in the future. Your other reads look great!
Have a great week ahead!
The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you’ll love it when you read it!
Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. Eating is a close second! I like your photos. I don’t like it when people over do the staging and arranging of home-made dishes.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
That’s good to hear. Thank you for the encouragement!
You’re making me hungry with all those food pictures! I enjoy 911: Lonestar. I am hoping a new season will come out at some point. I really like the original 911. I’ve been hearing good things about Fallout and will have to check it out. I was hoping to get out walking this weekend, but we were visited by more rain. I am glad you have been able to get out and walk.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands! I have to agree with you, that I think I like the characters from the first book more, but it was still such a fun read. I haven’t read Bookshops & Bonedust yet. Hopefully soon! You have me curious about Daughter of No Worlds. I will have to check that one out!
I hope you have a great week and enjoy you reading, Haze!
I’m definitely eager for more seasons of 911: Lonestar too. At least I have other shows to watch while I wait! I hope you love Bookshops & Bonedust when you read it. Baldree has such a talent for writing the best characters!
You are making me hungry with your photos! The cabbage stir fry sounds so good (I love cabbage but hardly ever cook with it). And I also loved Bookshops & Bonedust, I love the way Baldress writes characters:-)
I agree! He writes the best characters! I love them all so much!
I need to read Bookshops and Bonedust. I really enjoyed the first book in the series!
I hope you will enjoy B&B too!
I generally enjoy cooking though I don’t get to experiment too much because of fussy (not-so) kids.
I really enjoyed the Otherlands, I still need to read Bookshops and Bonedust though
Wishing you a lovely week
Ahh, it’s hard to cook for fussy eaters. My husband couldn’t take very spicy foods when we first started dating, but he’s developed a taste for it because I love spice so much!
Wow. Look at all that delicious food!
You read two good books this week. So glad to see that you enjoyed Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands. I hope to read that one, too.
Yes, I’m so happy with these two books! I loved the first books in the respective series so I knew I’d love these too!
That food looks so good.
Have a great week.
Looks like you had a busy but good week. Your cooking looks incredible, too!
Oooh, yay for stickers!
My husband and I are also watching Fallout. He’s played it, I haven’t it. It’s a little gory for me so I have to do something else while watching, but I’m enjoying it. (We’ve only watched one episode so far, but I’m feeling the uncertainty vibe from Maximus too XD)
I didn’t love Bookshops & Bonedust as much as I loved Legends & Lattes, but it was still a lot of fun. I think I just prefer Viv a bit more mature and sure of what she wants!
