Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what we’ve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.
Birthday Celebrations
I didn’t get a lot of reading done this past week because it was my husband’s birthday and we did several activities to celebrate, but I did manage to finish one book. We had a nice Sichuan meal. The food was so good, but honestly, not nearly spicy enough. It was our first time at this restaurant and we had the fish, prawns, and pork, but they’ve got lots of other great stuff on the menu and we’re definitely going back for more.
Our local zoo is very good and mindful about wildlife conservation, and the animals always seem happy and well taken care of. There are both indoor and outdoor spaces for the animals that need them and they can easily move between the two when they want depending on the weather.
It was my first time seeing the polar bears, but the otters were the stars of the show this trip. They were very active and frolicking around in the water, playing with seashells and each other. It was so fun to watch. It hadn’t been snowing when we went to the zoo so it looked nice and balmy in the pictures, but it was quite cold and I’m sensitive to the cold so I’m all nice and bundled up.
There were lots of other animals at the zoo too, of course, but we only visited the North American animals section of the zoo this time because it was closed the last times we went and we had already seen the other sections. We are definitely going back as often as we can though, because it’s always such a joy to see the animals playing, or just doing their own thing, and some of them even like performing for the crowd. We’ll be going back again for the Zoolights when it snows, because my husband wants to see them in the snow.
It did snow later in the week, and we went out to see Christmas lights last night. I love how beautiful they all look. My favorites are the peacock, and the big Christmas tree. There are lots of places in Calgary going all out on Christmas lights decoration, and we’re going back for the Zoolights, but we’re going to see if we can visit some other ones too. The Christmas lights are some of the best things about the winter season.

This Week
I don’t have much planned this week because I was too busy to think, but I do plan to do the weekly memes, and hopefully start reading the books I intended to read last week – Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!
It looks like you had a great week. I LOVE the peacock – so pretty!!
It changes colors too! I love it!
I remember having proper Sichuan peppers in Chongqing and it almost blew my head off. I’ve been secretly craving that ever since xD Your local zoo sounds great and I love the peacock as well, so many lights! I hope you have a lovely week and enjoy your books 🙂

Oooh, you’ve got to find a Sichuan restaurant near you. It’s probably never going to be as good as the one you had in Chongqing, but at least you’ll satisfy your cravings a bit. We actually had a favorite Sichuan restaurant here that we’d go to almost every month, but it closed down and we went more than a year before finding this place. It’s not as good as our old favorite, but it’s better than nothing! Thanks and I hope you have a great week too!
Happy Birthday to your husband! Wow, all of that food looks delicious! The zoo and lights outings look like fun too, although cold! I don’t mind cold weather (I prefer it over heat and humidity), but I can’t stay out in it for too long unless I stay active. I love otters. They are one of my favorite animals. 🙂 Have a great week!
Thank you! I love winter when I’m cozy and warm indoors watching the snow falling, I’m not a fan of actually being out in the cold, but there are so many fun winter activities that make me want to brave it. I love the otters, seeing them having so much fun gave me so much joy! Hope you have a great week too!
Looks like an adorable time. The lights are beautiful!
It was a fun week!
Aw, love all the pictures. It’s been a long time since we have visited a zoo. Have a great week.
Thanks! I hope you have a great one too!
That food looks so good! It sounds like you had a fun week. I hope you have an equally great week to come!
Thank you! The food was great, I’m craving it again already!
The lights are so pretty, and your food pics are making me hungry😁 I hope you have a good week!
Thanks! Sichuan food is one of my favorites!
All that food looks so good.
Have a great week.
Thank you! I hope you have a great week too!
I love seeing otters, even if they’re not the most exotic of animals! Meerkats too, for some reason — they’re so funny. Those Christmas lights look really cool!
My STS/Sunday post.
That’s so true! I’m definitely going back to see the otters again, and the meerkats too! The last couple of times I went, the meerkats weren’t feeling active, but hopefully they’ll be up and about next time.
Happy birthday to your husband! That’s nice you got that Sichuan meal even though it wasn’t spicy enough for you. Hopefully you can try some of their other dishes in the future. I can’t handle spicy at all sadly.
I like your pictures of the zoo and the Christmas decorations. That’s so nice that zoo cares about wildlife preservation and takes care of the animals, that really makes a difference when visiting a zoo. That Christmas peacock looks awesome!
Thank you! I’m sorry you can’t handle spicy, but in case you want to, it’s really just practice – the more you eat, the easier it gets, but start mild!
Yes, I love our zoo! We got a yearly pass and it’s so worth it, and it also makes me so happy to know I’m supporting the zoo a tiny bit.
