Welcome to the Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer to share weekly news and updates on what weâve been up to on our blog, with our books, and book-related happenings.Â
Cold, Cats, Cookies
I was in a funk this week. I didn’t have my usual energy this week and spent a couple of days being moody and just laying in bed reading (might be I was just using the moodiness as an excuse to stay in bed and read, but you have no proof).
To be fair, it was a really cold week, with temperatures going down to -36 Celcius, so it’s just much more comfy to hide under the covers than try to do anything else. Even the cats were so cold, all three cuddled up together, which they very rarely do! Also, to be clear, I didn’t have a cold. It was just really cold, and I had a mood.
I did bake some cookies though, which took a lot of time because I made 4x the recipe, but it was yummy and totally worth it! And we got some heat from the oven too, so win-win!
On the reading front, I finished The September House and The Librarian Spy, so yay! I also posted my notes and reactions for The September House that I wrote in my e-reader as I was reading. It’s password-protected and spoiler-filled, but if you’ve read it and are interested in my notes, password is “SPOILME0002”.
I also finally got Light Bringer by Pierce Brown on audiobook. It’s the sixth book in the Red Rising series, and I’ve been so anxious reading about characters that I’ve loved since the first book. Things haven’t been going their way for a while, and I’m just really afraid for them. If this was the final book, I would be expecting a good resolution, but there’s going to be a seventh book, so I’m not sure if we’re going to be left hanging again.
For nonfiction, I’ve started reading The Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner and it’s really kicking my ass, to be honest. I’m reading it very slowly, and it’s bringing up a lot of difficult topics. I’m sure it’s good for me to work through them, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for it right now.

This Week
I’m pretty sure I can finish Light Bringer this week. I’m not so sure about The Dance of Anger, I’m contemplating if I want to leave it for another time, but even if I decide to continue, I will be going slow, so it’s going to take me a while.
I also just got The Switch by Beth O’ Leary on audiobook, and I got a physical copy of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries from the library, so they are on the list right after Light Bringer. I’m feeling pretty happy because I’m doing well with actually reading the books I listed on my Winter TBR a few weeks ago. Let’s hope I keep it up!
How was your week? I hope you had a great week last week, and I hope you have a great one again this week!
I hope the weather warms up for you. Love the photo of the cats cuddled together.
Thanks! I’m looking forward to warmer weather too.
Ouch, that’s so cold! I can’t really imagine. I hope you’re staying nice and cosy!
I just got a copy of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries too, and I’m really looking forward to it from everything I’ve been hearing.
My weekly roundup.
Yup, I’m staying underneath the blankets and I don’t plan to step foot outside unless necessary. I’m looking forward to Emily Wilde too! I hope you enjoy it too!
CATS! They look like they have a mood too. Or maybe I’m just thinking about our cat, who always has a mood. I hope Light Bringer goes well for you!! I haven’t started the series yet (though I’ve been meaning to for ages)
My Sunday Post
Oh yeah, one of the cats definitely has a mood. The other two are okay, but Loki is not happy and doesn’t leave the blankets unless it’s time for food!
Oh my goodness – what a lot of snow! I don’t blame you for staying in bed. Personally – I’d put The Dance of Anger to one side if it’s causing you difficulties. These days, I’m really careful what I read when Life isn’t playing fair. I need to catch up with the Red Rising series – I think I stopped at the fourth book… Have a good week:).
Yeah, I’ve been reading less true crime and sad stories now, when I used to love them. The Red Rising series is so good, and I’m really loving it. It’s just all that anxiety and worry about the characters!
Those cookies look so good and those cats are cute.
Have a great week.
Thank you! Hope you have a great week too!
I love the cold kitty pile. I’m on a library waitlist for The September House, so I’m looking forward to it.
I’m so excited for you to read it! I hope you enjoy it!
I do not want to go anywhere when it is cold either. I am going to have to get over it because I have to go to work on Tuesday, LOL! Have a great week!
I hope the weather isn’t too bad where you are so that going to work won’t suck so much. I hope you have a wonderful week regardless!
This is about the 5th blog in winter that I have been to just now all saying how cold it is! Bed and reading sounds perfect. One reason I love making lists is that I am more likely to read the books so well done on your Winter TBR.
Well, I don’t wanna be that person, but I think the temperature here is the coldest out of everyone else’s winter. So there! Lol! And thanks, I feel like I stick to things better when I’ve got a list too! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Moods are real. I can totally relate. I’m glad you were able to stay in bed and read and that your cats stayed cozy warm. -36 Celsius is no joke! We often get below zero in January, but I don’t think it’s ever been that cold. The coldest I remember is -20F or -29C. I hope it warms up this week!
It’s supposed to warm up a bit this week, within the -20s C, so not much, but still better than -30C!
I like a cozy week with reading. I had problems to handle but they eased off later in the week. I have read both Emily Wilde books and they are charming. I hope you enjoy them.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thank you! I’m looking forward to the Emily Wilde books.
Oh wow, I can’t even imagine that level of cold!! Your cats are adorable. I’m headed over to read your review of The September House nowđ
Thanks, my cats know they’re adorable too!
-36 Oh my goodness. It’s -22 Celcius here in Chicago, IL and with the wind, it feels like -32 Celcius. I think I read or heard that the second half of January (in the Northern Hemisphere) is the most depressing time of the year. Your mood makes sense. I hope this week feels better for you! I have heard so many good things about the Red Risings series. I’m reading Between Mischief & Magic, it’s fun!
Thank you! Between Mischief & Magic looks fun! I hope you enjoy the Red Rising series if you decide to read it. It just keeps getting better with each book, but it’s really heart wrenching too!
Ouch! That’s more cold than I can even imagine! We are close to freezing here, and I want to just stay in my pjs all day!
You’ve got the right idea. I just want to bury myself under the blankets and snuggle with the cats!
Sometimes you just need a day or two to stay curled up with cats and blankets and books. And cookies. Sounds heavenly!
It’s not nearly as cold here in Virginia… but it’s definitely colder this weekend than it has been so far this winter, with lows in the teens and highs below 35. It’s even snowing today, which is nice.
Have a good week, and enjoy your next books!
Yes! I’m going to take the positive and focus on the cats, cookies, and books! I do love the snow, I just don’t like the cold that comes with it. I hope you have a great week too!
I’ve been baking more just to get the heat. (Well, and the goodies.) Stay warm!

Lol yes! The heat and the goodies are both great reasons to bake more!
